The concept of moral luck is when a person is treated with
praise or blamed for an action they did not do or aren't able to control.
External influences are not usually thought to excuse what is done from moral judgment,
it being positive or negative. One time where moral luck played a part
somewhere in my life was when I had my very first boyfriend. One day we got into an argument and by
accident I called him my old crush’s name and even though it wasn't intentional
I had to deal with the consequences. I didn't mean to, but it happened and it
was an action I wasn't able to control.
I don’t think
that moral luck is an ethical issue because I believe in karma good and bad. Life isn't always fair, its either you hold a grudge on it or move on from it.
Sometimes our actions aren't explainable We don’t mean what we did to harm or
hurt others, but that’s just the way life is. Bad luck or good luck, we have to
deal with it in one shape or another.
One can argue that karma is an example of moral luck. In many cases bad things that happen to people are viewed as bad karma for previous actions committed by a person. In these cases the bad karma that occurs is totally unrelated to the previous actions that "justified the bad karma to occur. Many could argue that karma is nothing more than an external condition, therefore bad luck. Rather than being seen as a totally separate force on the universe karma could in fact be an example of moral luck.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with karma being a example of moral luck they' re two different type of things. Karma is just how you treat people in general. While moral luck is when your praised or blame for a certain situation where you have no control over.
ReplyDeleteI also disagree with karma having relevance to moral luck. Karma deals specifically with the cause and effect of conscious and intentional actions and decisions so it cannot be compared to something that happens unintentionally.
