Privacy and Disclosure

When two people are about to become sexually intimate, I think that there is little relevance in whether it is a long term relationship or a one night stand when talking about the disclosure of certain things. With that said, there is a certain sense of discretion versus disclosure in the act of intimacy.
For one, STDs should always be disclosed, 100% of the time, period. It may be embarrassing and ruin the moment, but in the long run, it's better to know and prevent the spread of the disease from one individual to another. Other things that should always be disclosed are if birth-control is being used, if either or both of the two individuals are in a relationship, the age of both people involved, and expectations of a long-term relationship if there are any. It is important for both parties to know if it is just casual fun or if there are interests in something more serious, in order to prevent confusion. These things should always be disclosed in order to prevent any physical, legal, emotional, or social damage to the people involved.
Things that should never be disclosed are anything that may be private on grounds other than the sexual encounter, as long as the person of interest does not want to disclose them. For example, just because a man is about to have sex with a woman, does not mean that the man should have to disclose to her his social security number or credit card number, or vice versa. It is simply irrelevant and should therefore remain private.
Things that should be disclosed under certain circumstances are things that should probably be said, but do not necessarily pose a threat to anyone's well-being if left unsaid. This would include things like preferences when it comes to sex, personal opinions, and histories of sexual involvement.

  1. I agree with your first part of your blog. Its true that tons of question aren't asked when sexual activity is about to happen. There is little to none communication involved. But on the con tray this should be disclosed because if not your going to go into a lot of things blindside. Just because a person doesn't want to disclosed info means there not going to depends on the person but good job.

  2. I thought this post was pretty well organized and I agree with basically everything written. I think the point about social security numbers and credit card info was comical, but true. However it would have been informative to have an example that was a little less drastic. Really good points, well done.
